I've noticed that all the shows I've been posting lately have been having the same problem. The derivative files are being created in the same directory as the lossless files, and so they aren't being seperated out; there's no option to download the full show in lossy format, and the lossless zip includes all the file types. This has got to be a bandwidth suck and it's irritating to boot.

FTP works great for this.

the lossless zip includes all the file types

We're working on correcting this.

Well, I figure once this is fixed, the shows should have the lossy and lossless links like the ones that don't have this problem, right?

Not quite - for new contributions we use a feature called "Zip On The Fly" in which your clicking the link begins the process of feeding you a zip file that gets created as you download it. The fix is to filter this so it only captures the lossless files, MD5's, and TXT's.

For older stuff, like this one:

http://www.archive.org/audio/etree-details-db.php?id=12091

We had enough server space to actually create the zip files and host them on the server.

However, about 2 months ago we ran short on server space and had to disable that. It will eventually be reinstated, but I don't believe this will occur until the collection moves onto a petabox sometime next year.

The lossy and lossless files are still there, we just currently aren't in a position to reinstate those huge zip files for every show again.

So, will the shows have "zip on the fly" for the lossy formats as well?

I'll try, the problem is that all the other collections are also in the process of moving to a new hardware cluster (petabox). So the engineers with the organization are giving that all the attention they have. Since we are on an old infrastructure that will soon go away, it's not in their best interest to give too much attention to us for new features until the migration is complete - because there is a good chance they will have to just rebuild all this stuff after it's done.

Hope that makes sense, there are only so many engineers at archive.org with a huge to-do list, and the LMA tends to be the loudest shouters for new features and fixes. At some point they have to say "this is lower priority than X, Y, and Z - I hope you can wait until we are ready".
